Frankfurt am Main/Amsterdam 10 September 2024.
Several stakeholders, associations and organisations are currently working on the organisational and technical framework conditions for a market launch of DVB-I in Germany.
DVB-I next development steps
Deutsche TV-Plattform is supporting these activities and has reorganised its DVB-I Task Force under the leadership of Frank Heineberg (RTL Deutschland) and Remo Vogel (rbb, Chair DVB-Project). The DVB-I Pilot Project Germany, which is independent of Deutsche TV-Plattform, has successfully developed a vision for a future-oriented television experience in Germany. Based on the results of this work, the DTVP will now initiate the next development steps for a technical implementation profile for DVB-I devices in Germany. Participation in the Deutsche TV-Plattform Task Force is open to all participants in the German market, regardless of membership.
Parallel to the activities of Deutsche TV-Plattform, a ‘round table’ is clarifying superordinate issues relating to the market launch. At the suggestion of ARD, ZDF, RTL Deutschland and ProSiebenSat.1 Media and at the invitation of the coordinator of the DLM's Innovation and Infrastructure Committee and BLM President Dr Thorsten Schmiege, a first ‘round table’ on DVB-I took place in July, with the involvement of VAUNET. In further meetings, the media and antitrust aspects will be explored.
DVB-I Highlight Use Cases
Deutsche TV-Plattform will publish the white paper with DVB-I highlight use cases also in English language for IBC 2024. The description of relevant DVB-I use cases is aimed at all stakeholders in the TV value chain as well as consumers. In particular, decision-makers in companies are addressed in order to show them the potential of DVB-I technology. The report offers added value for market participants across Europe, as many of the challenges in Germany also play a role in other markets.
The DVB-I Highlight Use Cases White Paper is available and can be downloaded free of charge from the Deutsche TV-Plattform website:

Printed copies will also be available at the DVB stand (1.B73) and at the EBU stand (10.D21) at IBC2024.
The heads of the DTVP DVB-I Task Force - Frank Heineberg and Remo Vogel - expect DVB-I to gain significant momentum in Germany. ‘We are very pleased that DVB-I is currently taking constructive steps towards a market launch in Germany. There are still important decisions to be made regarding the joint product definition, the organisation and operation of the DVB-I service list and device certification. We are very confident that the activities that have now been launched will result in a stable start-up scenario for the CE industry in Germany.’
DVB-I at IBC 2024
Visitors to IBC 2024 can find out about the results of German DVB-I developments, such as the aggregator software for the service list, the integration of broadcast network tuning parameters, support for sign-in and DRM as well as accessibility and IT security issues, at the EBU stand (10.D21) and the DVB project stand (1.B73). At the EBU stand, WDR and bmt will show how DVB-I can improve the discovery of ARD regional programmes and local TV programmes in the broadcast and streaming environment. ZDF presents an intuitive user journey between live and on-demand content. ARD, bmt, DVBProject and ZDF - as well as ProSiebenSat.1 and RTL Deutschland - are members of Deutsche TV-Plattform.
