CE Industry Compass 2024: TV sales increase by 2.6 per cent

Frankfurt am Main 12 February 2025.

Sales growth in the TV market: According to the latest CE Industry Compass 2024 from ZVEI and Deutsche TV-Plattform in cooperation with GfK, sales figures for TV displays rose by 2.6 per cent year-on-year to just under 4.6 million units in 2024 (2023: just under 4.5 million). Business was boosted in particular in the second quarter by the European Football Championship and in the fourth quarter by replacement purchases due to the end of ARD's SD broadcasting at the beginning of January 2025.

OLED TVs grew disproportionately in 2024 with an increase of 6.4 per cent (735,000 units). The trend towards larger screen diagonals continued: In the group of sets with a screen diagonal of 51 to 65 inches, sales rose by 8.1 per cent (1.9 million units), while very large televisions over 65 inches even recorded an increase of 33.6 per cent (380,000 units). The trend was also positive for UHD TV, with sales up 5.2 per cent (3.6 million units) in 2024. An increasing number of flat-screen TVs are also equipped with integrated surround sound, with two million units sold in 2024 (+10.3%)

Shortly before World Radio Day on 13 February, there is also positive news regarding digital radio. Just over seven in ten of all radio receivers in Germany in 2024 will enable digital radio reception. This includes internet radio, DAB+ and hybrid receivers. Over the past four years, the proportion of digital radio receivers has risen by 14 percentage points to 72 per cent.

The trend for DAB+ radios is also positive. Over half of the ‘table top’ radios sold in 2024 have this standard (56%). This means that the DAB+ share has risen significantly in recent years: As recently as 2020, only just over a third of radios sold were DAB+ receivers (41%).

The overall market (video and audio) analysed in the CE sector compass declined slightly in 2024. Sales amounted to €6.2 billion, around 1.5 per cent less than in 2023. Sales in the audio market fell by 5 per cent compared to the previous year, while sales in the video market grew slightly by 1.7 per cent.

Note: The consumer electronics market analysed by the CE Sector Compass comprises TV sets, TV accessories, radios, headphones, speakers and audio and sound systems. The radio segment analysed includes radio devices (i.e. stand-alone radios), radios in audio home systems, tuners, receivers and car radios for retrofitting. Radios installed in motor vehicles are not included.

Unless otherwise stated, the figures in the CE Sector Compass are based on GfK Totalmarkt figures. Further figures on audio and TV/video can be found at https://www.zvei.org/presse and https://tv-plattform.de/branchenkompass.
